Publishing Strategist Services

Let's face it, self-publishing can be a lonely venture. One of the best parts of traditional publishing is having a team of people behind you and your book that were chosen for you. (Because who wants to burn themselves out doing everything and then not have anyone to celebrate with?)

That's where a Publishing Strategist comes in. This service is part self-publishing literary agent, part book coach, part project manager, and part publicist. I'm in it with you for the long-haul (or as long as you'll have me!).

*My specialty is in helping Canadian authors self-publish, though I can still support international authors.

What You Get

Publishing Plan

A custom plan to get your book from idea to published book (whether hard cover, paperback, or eBook). Together, we'll discuss the pros and cons of each method and decide what's best for you and your project.

Editorial Services

Every excellent book needs feedback. That's where editing comes in. Whether you decide to add-on some of my editorial services or to seek out a different editor, I can help you find a good match for your book.

Cover Design

We all judge books by their cover, don't we? While I wouldn't recommend self-designing (unless you have graphic design experience under your belt), and I'm certainly not one to design it for you, I can help to narrow down your vision for the cover, offer advice based on market trends, and recommend a list of designers in various budget ranges.

Book Positioning

Often times, the success or failure of a title can come down to where it's placed in the market. I'll help to narrow down which BISAC codes to use, keywords for market placement, and more. Additionally, I can help to write back cover copy, and offer guidance on securing reviews and testimonials.

Technical Help

Once we have the book details out of the way, I can help with things like getting ISBNs and barcodes, answering questions like, "Should I file for copyright?" and "How can I increase my chances of getting my book on shelves?".

Marketing Support

Throughout all this, the book needs to be marketed! As part of your Publishing Plan, we'll talk about pre-order campaigns, realistic goals, and a general timeline on marketing plans. I can also offer advice on social media strategy, as well as helping to set up profiles in places like Amazon, Goodreads, and starting an Instagram platform. I also offer assistance in author branding

Investment

Unlike my editing services, this Publishing Strategy Service is an on-going commitment. As such, costs start at $200/month (plus applicable taxes for Canadians) for the duration of the contract.

I acknowledge that I live and work on the traditional territory of the Neutral, Anishinaabeg, and Haudenosaunee Peoples. I am thankful to those of the First Nations, Métis, and Inuit peoples who have--and continue to--care for these lands here and across the province. To this day, Indigenous people in this region and beyond continue to face oppression, inequality, and violence as a result of historic and ongoing colonialism. Though these lands are protected by the Dish with One Spoon agreement, settlers and institutions continue to fail to uphold their responsibilities. In order to change, we must understand the gruesome history and stand in allyship with Indigenous peoples through action.
